Our First House

LBK, LifeLaura KittrellComment

So since we have moved into our new home I realized I never shared pictures of our first house. It was the house I cooked my first meals in as a wife and did loads and loads of laundry. Here is our cozy little house.....

When you walk in you see the den straight ahead....

IMG_0020-1024x682.jpg

To the right is the kitchen. I have to say, I am thankful that in this house the kitchen is a little bit larger! :) I spent a lot of time here and really enjoy cooking so this is a bonus!

Through that door is the laundry room. One downer of this new house is the laundry room is a bit smaller. The place I spend a good bit of time as well. haha. I LOVED this laundry room!

Another view of the den and then we go down the hall way...

To the left is our guest room.....

This house had 1 and a half baths. Thankful for the extra half we have in this new house! :)

Then we have the master! Loved our room! :) Love our headboard!

IMG_0055-1024x682.jpg

I will say for the most part our house was actually this clean. MOST of the time. However, just to keep it real.....this was our office which went through stages of being organized and then stages such as this.....Hoping for a more organized office in this new house!

I really loved our first house but the BEST part about it was what we got to see when we walked out the front door. It was the best living across the street from my sister and brother-in-law and sweet Lucy for a few months! :) We miss them so much even though we are only about 10 minutes apart. It's just not quite the same! :)

Anyways, when this new house doesn't look like a bomb went off in it I will share pictures. Maybe it won't be a year :)

One Year

LBK, Life, the two of usLaura KittrellComment

One year. I cannot believe how quickly it has passed. It has been the greatest year of my life. During our ceremony last year Chris said "Marriage will literally kill you. It will kill the parts of you that need to die." I certainly hope that some parts of me have died this year. I will say that the first year has been almost bliss. Not that there haven't been some tough times because there certainly have been. However, I am sure that there are many more struggles to come.I am so thankful for what I have learned! I am thankful that I get to fall asleep and wake up next to my best friend! We have been through many changes from getting used to new jobs, learning to take care of a house, cook meals, traveling, and now buying our first home!

I am so incredibly blessed to be married to Brett. I don't deserve his kindness. I mean.....he has played with my hair literally almost every night as I have fallen asleep for the last year. Seriously. Love language. :)

Brett, thank you for being so wonderful and for taking care of me for better and worse this year. I pray that we will strive to look more like Him and glorify Him through our marriage in our second year together.

Here is a video to commemorate our first year as husband and wife!

Love you forever! :)

Photography Updates

Families, LBK, Life, PhotographyLaura KittrellComment

Alright October, you have been a crazy busy month! This would explain the lack of posting around this blog. I have so much to update however I am going to stick with the photography related updates! I really had the best intentions of doing a separate post for each session that I did! Ha! Have I mentioned that the whole photography business thing is part time (ish) and I still teach everyday? Yes, that makes updating this blog a bit challenging! I will share a couple of favorites from each session that I have had in October and hopefully from here on out I can do a post for each session. :)

We will kick it off with Miss Audrey who made her debut earlier this month! What an angel she was! Her parents are dear friends of ours and I was so happy I got to document her on her fourth day of life! :)

Next up, I got to meet up with two sweet friends from high school! Their precious little boy, Bryson, is turning 1! We even got to do a smash cake and that angel LOVED it!! It was so GREAT to see you two!

I then met up with the Hamilton Family! Little Miss Kate was so sweet even in the midst of having a cold!! :)

The next day I met up with a second Hamilton family! :) We wanted a major fall theme and Ashley even cut out a pumpkin for little Liam to sit in! So fun!

Next, I met up at the park with the Lee brothers! They were so cute and full of so much personality!!

IMG_1199-1024x682 (1).jpg

This beautiful girl was supposed to be the flower girl in a wedding but there was a change of plans and the trip could not be made! However, we did not want to miss the chance to document this sweet girl in her "princess dress" as she called it! I felt like I was photographing a fairytale!

My last update for this post is little Olivia who turned 1 last weekend! First of all, look at those eyes! Oh my goodness!! It was such a privilege to photograph her first birthday party!

If you stuck with me, thank you! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU to all of you sweet clients who allowed me to take photos of your kiddos and families this month! It has been a joy and although it was incredibly busy, I am thankful for the opportunity! :)

Although the month of October was crazy busy (and is still not over :) ), it was such a blessing! I am grateful to be busy and to be able to do something I love both in the classroom and doing the photography thing! I would so appreciate your prayers as October comes to a close and November begins! I will be back soon with another update on life in general!

P.S. Brett and I have almost been married a year! What? When did this happen?

First Week of School

LBK, Life, the two of usLaura KittrellComment

On Wednesday I started my first week at my new school. I made a big switch from public to private school and then another big adjustment from the familiar world of first grade to the grown up world of fifth grade! It has been a  big week of firsts! My heart is overflowing with thankfulness for a good first week. The Lord has given me 14 sweet, smart, and active fifth graders who are very independent! I know I will probably have moments of missing tying shoes, buckling belts, and giving directions at a far slower pace. But, overall, I am thankful that these fifth graders can be given a task and do it! It makes for a much less exhausting day! I am thankful for the environment that the Lord has provided for me to work in. He is so good to us.

I see the Lord providing for Brett and I in so many ways. There may be a couple of big changes coming soon but until then, I plan on focusing on teaching and pursuing some new things. I look forward to sharing these changes soon! :)

Happy Sunday! :)

Learning Lately...

Faith, LBKLaura KittrellComment
This post has been a long time coming. Six weeks ago I, along with several other women, started Beth Moore's study through the book of James. I have learned so much and been extremely convicted and challenged through this study.
While it is hard to pinpoint one thing that has stood out in each chapter, I am going to attempt it. In chapter 1 James talks some about having joy in our trials. Joy is my birthright! No one can take it from me! I really started thinking about how I react during the hardest times. People watch how we respond in good times and bad. I was so convicted that I, so often, do not consider my trials to be joyful. I don't want to persevere. I want to feel sorry for myself, not take them to the Lord, complain, etc. Hello? As a Christian, trials are promised! It is not supposed to be easy! Looking back, the Lord has taught me so much during the good but even more during the bad!
In chapter 2 we hear about faith and deeds. I can say that I believe in God all day long but if my actions do not reflect that then it doesn't even matter. Beth says, "faith is meant to do some good" and "faith shows works" No, I cannot earn my way to heaven by doing good things but I "was created in Christ Jesus to do the works that He has prepared for me." (Eph. 2:10) I pray that I am not just a person who "claims" to believe in Christ but truly walks that walk. I want to serve and be used for His glory.
In chapter 3 we hear about taming the tongue. Gracious, if ever there was a tongue that needed to be tamed, it is mine. With my tongue I do praise my Father but with that same tongue I am sarcastic, rude, and do not always glorify the Lord. If He has control of my tongue, He is going to have control of the other areas in my life as well. It is a sign of spiritual maturity when we can control our tongue. Verse 11 says, "Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?" Goodness, I truly need to pray that God would continue to make me more like Him and that my tongue would encourage, help, comfort, and show love towards others.
In chapter 4 there were two verses that Beth Moore specifically talked about. Verses 9 and 10 say, "Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." Verse nine is certainly not too encouraging. She gave us example of when we should turn our laughter into mourning. First, "when we've traded the joys of the Lord for the highs of this world." Ouch. How often do I cling to the things that bring temporary fulfillment instead of going to my heavenly Father who knows exactly what I need! Second, "when we don't take God seriously." Third, "when we're arrogant in or about our sin" and fourth, "when ridiculing sincere believers is our idea of hilarious." All of these hit me hard. But, when I realize that I am guilty of some of these things I know I need to run towards Christ and beg for forgiveness! I need to change my "laughter into mourning" and my "joy to gloom."
While it has been so tough to study and read and listen to Beth Moore talk each week, I always have left encouraged. The main thing I am aware of is my GREAT need of a Savior and His unfailing love and amazing grace. He is sovereign over everything! He knows me and knows what I struggle with and knows what I need. I am so thankful! I pray that I can run to Him and not to the things of this world which are going to burn one day. I am thankful for all that I am learning and what I am being convicted of.
We are in the middle of chapter 5 right now so I'll have to do an update after we finish in the next couple of weeks! That was a bit of a ramble but I have learned so much and honestly, as much as I enjoy blogging about my family, vacations, photography, etc., my relationship with the Lord should be a huge part of this blog because it should always be the center of every part of my life!

The Weekend

Friends, LBK, LifeLaura KittrellComment
The past weeks have been both busy and relaxing. Currently I am in Puerto Rico with my husband and his family so I will not be posting until I get back.
I did however want to give a huge congratulations to two dear friends who tied the knot this weekend! Sadly, the camera was packed away for vacation but I was blessed to be a small part of this special day! Unfortunately, all I have are a few phone photos.....
Bridesmaids with the bride....

Dear Daddy

Family, LBK, LifeLaura KittrellComment
Dear Daddy,
Thank you for always working so hard. Thank you for always tucking us in at night and telling us a "dirty" story about the horse falling into the mud and a "clean" one about him getting a bath! Thank you for calling your "cinnamon roll girls" on Sunday mornings. Thank you for being the most caring father. Thank you for loving mom so well. Thank you for constantly having a project and showing us the importance of hard work. Thank you for telling us "one foot in front of the other!" Thank you for the constant reminder from early on that "the first shall be last and the last shall be first." Thank you for being a good example for Brett to see. Thank you for the 6 AM math sessions. Thank you for all of the many many opportunities you gave us. Thank you for encouraging me in everything that I ever did. Thank you for showing me that the most important thing in this life is my relationship with God. Thank you for showing me how to be a giver and not a taker. Thank you for being so generous. Thank you for praying with us and reading God's Word with us. Thank you for walking me down the aisle and giving me away almost 8 months ago! Thank you for being there. Thank you for being one of the greatest role models in my life.
I love you so so much!
Love,
Lou

Sweet Little Charlotte

This past weekend Eric, Linds, V, and C came to visit! As always, the camera was ready and I had the privilege to snap some photos of my new niece....she was so sweet and happy just about the whole time!

She slept so soundly in that basket :)

It's a challenge to choose a favorite...particularly when it is your niece!! :) Isn't she beautiful!?!?
And a blog post of one little niece just wouldn't be complete without a picture of the other...
This angel is so much fun and so sweet!! We had a lot of fun playing in the pool, swinging, and just playing together!
I happen to think she is beautiful too! :)
Happy Tuesday!

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Faith, LBKLaura KittrellComment
On Sunday at church we sang the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." I am constantly amazed at how faithful He is no matter what. I love that hymn. I love so many of the words.

"Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not. As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be."
What a blessing to know that we serve a God who never changes. He is eternal.
"Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning, new mercies I see. All I have needed, Thy hand hath provided! Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!"
As I think back on the last months as a newlywed I can think of all of the "new mercies" I have seen and the blessings that the Lord has poured over our lives. Everything that we have needed, He has provided. This couldn't be more true. Mostly, I have seen it in the tangible and material things.
However, I am seeing Christ refine me. Unfortunately, I don't always look at that as a good thing. I resist it. As we sang on Sunday, I couldn't stop thinking of how good He is and all that He has provided for Brett and I and how unfaithful I am so often to Him. He gently reminded me that, "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)

Thank you for this promise Lord. I long to be refined and not only refined, but actively changed.

Weekend in ATL

LBK, Life, the two of us, TravelLaura KittrellComment
This past weekend Brett and I went to Atlanta to shop, relax, and take in a Braves game. It was so nice to get away and a perfect way to kick off spring break! I did a little video editing from the game.......Again, I'm not the best at it but I'm learning.
